Benedictine College Preparatory Middies Wrestling

Middle School Wrestling Program

Benedictine College Prep’s Middies program was first started by a group of alumni Cadets with a passion for bringing athletics to Richmond-area Catholic middle schoolers. Since its inception in 2006, the program has grown leaps and bounds and currently services hundreds of middle school athletes in four sports: football, wrestling, baseball, and lacrosse. Middies Program provides athletic teams for middle school boys from area Catholic, independent, and public middle schools. Home schooled students are also welcome to join our program. We welcome all 5^th through 8^th grade boys to contact us today.

Meet the Coaches

The Head Coach of Middies Wrestling is Kevin Donahue. Coach Donahue was a 4x VISAA State Champion and 3x National Prep All-American in high school. He went on to wrestle collegiately at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa and became a 3x NCAA Division III All-American. Upon graduating, he coached at Central College in Pella, Iowa for seven years, before he moved home to Virginia. He’s now in his 3^rd year of involvement with Benedictine Wrestling, and this will be his first year at the helm of the newly resurrected Middies Wrestling program.

Several of the high school coaches will support Middies Wrestling, including Head Coach David Yost, Coach Zacharia Cox, Coach Carlos Leyva, and Coach Jarrod Elwell.

BCP Varsity Wrestlers will also regularly help out and act as coaches and mentors for Middies athletes.

Practices and Competitions

Practices for the 2024-2025 season will take place in the BCP Wrestling Complex on the Southeast corner of the BSoR Abbey campus (12829 River Road). Practices will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 6:30 to 7:45pm, beginning November 4^th and ending January 8^th, with breaks worked in for Thanksgiving and Christmas. There will be 2-3 opportunities for some athletes to compete throughout the season. For questions regarding Middies Wrestling, contact Coach David Yost: dyost@bcprva.org.

Why Play Middies Sports

Middies wrestling is a great opportunity for boys to learn and grow in the sport, gain confidence, build character, as well as meet fellow athletes from different schools and build new relationships. In addition, Middies wrestlers have an opportunity to work with high school coaches.
